NOTE
"CAL FIRE looks
at the Lightning Series as a single event that includes
thousands of fires from both the original thunderstorm
that came through central and northern California
on 20 & 21 and a second storm coming through California
on August 5 & 6. A handful of these incidents
are still burning today. To date for the lightning
series, 2,096 fires have burned nearly 1.2 million
acres." (Email from Alisha Henning, CAL FIRE,
to Doris Schoenhoff, MRC, 12 September 2008)
The statistics provided
in the tables above only include those fires that
started on June 20-21, accounting for 778,217 burnt
acres.
